How to change your name on the passport card?

To update your passport details to your married name, you must submit your civil marriage certificate or civil partnership certificate. Your standard Passport Book must also be updated to reflect this change.

On the other hand, if your previous passport was issued in your married name and you want your new passport issued in your maiden name, you must submit:

Your birth certificate
Your judicial separation court order, separation agreement, or divorce decree. Alternatively, you can submit 2 official documents that show you have been consistently using your maiden name for the past 2 years.

If you have changed your name for any other reason (such as by Deed Poll), you will be required to submit official documents showing you have been continually using the new name for the past 2 years.

A 6-month usage proof may be accepted only in cases where you are reverting to or using the Irish-language version of your name, provided you have official documentation to back it up.

How to incorporate gender recognition in the Irish Passport Card?

To update your gender marker and name on an Irish passport following gender transition, you must first obtain a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) from the Department of Social Protection.
