Read on to find out what documents are typically needed when applying for a Schengen visa. Bear in mind that each type of Schengen visa has specific requirements in terms of documentation, that may come in over and above the following paperwork.
What Documentation Is Needed for a Short-Term Schengen Visa Application?
- Signed and completed Schengen visa application form
- Two recent photos (not older than three months)
- A passport that will be valid for longer than three months after you’ve left the Schengen area.
- Itinerary or trip reservations, including flight numbers and dates relevant to entering and exiting the Schengen area. There are visa consultation services that can help with this.
- Travel insurance documentation proving that you are covered by travel health insurance for the entire Schengen area. The minimum coverage needs to exceed 30 000 euros in order to provide for unexpected situations including accidents, illnesses and even death.
- Proof of accommodation is required for the whole time you will be staying in the Schengen territory. This includes hotel or hostel bookings, rental agreements or a letter of invitation from the host at whose home you will be staying.
- You need to provide evidence that you have the financial means to support your stay. This could be a recent (last three months) bank account statement, a sponsorship letter with the recent bank statement of the sponsor.
- Proof of payment for the visa fee (80 euros for adults and 45 euros for children between the ages of 6 and 12)
