In South Africa, driving licenses are valid for five years from the date of issue. It’s important to renew your license before it expires. How to renew your driving license

- Gather the required documents (see below) and locate your nearest DLTC.
- Visit the DLTC and complete the renewal application form. Book an appointment online if possible to save time.
- Take an eye test and pay the renewal fee at the designated counter.
- Have your photo and fingerprints taken for your new license card.
- Receive a temporary driving license on the spot. Your official card will be mailed to you within 4-6 weeks.
Documents needed to renew your driving license

- Your valid South African ID book, card, or passport
