Your French residence card was stolen, what to do?

If your French residence card was stolen, it is advisable to make a flight report. For citizens of non-EU/EEA/Switzerland country  these steps are mandatory.

How do I report the theft of my residence permit?

In France

You must report the theft to the police station or gendarmerie where the offense was committed.

Abroad

You must make your theft report to the local police authorities and the nearest consulate.

What are the documents to provide?

You should go to the prefecture or sub-prefecture closest to your address to request a duplicate of your residence permit.

  • Your flight report receipt,
  • Your valid passport,
  • 1 photocopy of your stolen residence permit,
  • Indication of where you live (provided by any documented proof),
  • 1 passport photo (click here to see the requirements),
  • Proof of payment of the fee (requested at the time of delivery of the permit).

Note that the issuance of a residence permit duplicate is free.
